"Fragments" by Liz Scotta

Aug 7 - Nov 3 2024

Ingleside Gallery at Ballast Coffee is proud to present by Liz Scotta who is an American visual artist, teacher, an urban sketcher, a collage artist and watercolor painter known for her detailed depictions of urban scenes. With a diverse cultural background and upbringing in Connecticut, Mexico, and New York City, she now resides in San Francisco, capturing the essence of cities from Marrakesh to Mumbai in her travels. She is the author of three books: My Sketchbook of San Miguel de Allende, Travels With a Sketchbook, and Not Just Paris: Scenes From France. In a world where quick selfies and iPhone images rule, she wants her illustrations to call attention to minute details that the observer frequently overlooks.

Juried by Wayne Thiebaud, she received Honorary Mention award in Beyond Boundaries, 1997, held at the Richmond Art Center. Most recently her collage, Zoom Meeting, was exhibited at the first On the Edge at the de Young Open Show, 2020.

"Illuminate: A Survey of West Portal’s Art Educators"

Nov 4 - Dec 15 2024

Ingleside Gallery at Ballast Coffee is proud to present "Illuminate," an exhibition featuring the works of the remarkable art educators from the West Portal neighborhood of San Francisco who tirelessly balance their passion for teaching with their own artistic pursuits. This showcase highlights the unrelenting spirit and creative voices of those who dedicate their lives to nurturing the next generation of artists while continuing to create compelling art themselves.

These educators, all affiliated with West Portal’s local art studio for budding artists, exemplify the profound commitment required to place the growth of others alongside—or even above—their personal careers. Their sacrifices and unwavering dedication deserve both gratitude and recognition. "Illuminate" shines a spotlight on their ongoing creative practices, celebrating how their roles as teachers enrich and are enriched by their own artistry.

The exhibition is open for viewing during café hours from November 4th to December 14th, with an artist reception on Sunday, November 10th. We look forward to sharing this inspiring collection with the community.
